Welcome

The research examines the costs incurred by the seismic retrofit process for New Zealand's buildings.

This is a national project funded by the "Seismic Retrofit Solutions for NZ " research programme, being conducted at the University of Auckland.

Seismic retrofit of buildings greatly reduces the amount of damage a building receives and is highly efficient in diminishing the social, economic and financial effects of potential future earthquakes. Uptake of retrofit solutions provides national benefit through improved community resilience and greater readiness. Seismically retrofitted buildings are safer to occupy, have less damage and result in lives saved, during and after a major earthquake.

The retrofit solution for any building is mainly affected by the cost and benefit comparisons. Feedback from past and current studies indicates that the cost of retrofitting is a leading factor being taken into account by decision makers.

By completing the survey on this website, you will be assisting with the development of a national retrofit cost modelling database.

The database will be used to help government, building stakeholders and building professionals to make better seismic retrofit decisions. This will be achieved by allowing one to calculate the costs incurred by implementing seismic rehabilitation work using the Retrofit Cost Estimator.

Further details of the research programme can be found at www.retrofitsolutions.org.nz.

Your cooperation is highly appreciated.
